I leverage my dual journalism (B.A.) and data science (M.S.) backgrounds to tell stories that provide insight into the role of a data engineer, how data impacts every aspect of our daily lives and how a data-driven world will shape our collective futures.
Recognizing a lack of data engineering content on Medium, I began Pipeline: A Data Engineering Resource, where I began sharing tutorials related to building data pipelines in Python, SQL and other programming languages. Although I continue to share technical walkthroughs, as a former journalist, I offer a distinct perspective on how to break into and excel in the data field.
To indulge my fascination with visualization and to keep my data storytelling skills sharp, I also write data journalism pieces, like this one on how I scraped Wikipedia data to find the most expensive watches in the world, or this dashboard dissecting The Onion's coverage of Joe Biden over the years.
Since I'm fortunate to have a pretty cool day job, I use Medium as a platform to connect with those in my field while exploring my interests within the niches of data science, technology, ethics and journalism. My hope is that my work brings awareness to the fulfilling and impactful role of the data engineer within data-driven organizations while demystifying the intimidating barriers to entry in the data field.
Please feel free to join me at Pipeline or LinkedIn and, if you're so inclined, you can easily join Medium to support professionals like myself who are dedicated to learning, sharing and exploring the ever-expanding, ever-evolving role of data in business and society.
